Through its acquisition of TTM Industries (M) Sdn. Bhd, the company began building its first block towards an integrated supply chain business. TTMI operates two furnaces, with a 60,000 metric tonne annual capacity, converting second-grade copper scraps to copper coils, an end product consumed by copper cable manufacturers and copper foil manufacturers.
The first furnace was fired up in March 2007, completing the first phase of the smelter operation. The second furnace commenced operation in early November 2007. With both furnaces gradually increasing their output, the smelter is expected to run at full capacity in 2008.
The acquisition in 2007 of a smelter in Shenyang, People’s Republic of China, through an equity joint venture, added an additional 50,000 metric tonnes in annual capacity of high value added copper products. The smelter's output under the JV will further scale up ASCT’s copper supply chain management business.
The Board of ASCT is of the view that the JV will strengthen ASCT’s position as a leading producer of a growing range of refined copper products in Asia from recycled scrap copper. This will result in the scaling up of the Group’s copper supply chain management capabilities.
